Why Intermittent Fasting is Bad for Hypothyroidism

I love fasting! I believe that fasting is one of the most powerful tools you can use to get more energy and lose weight…

… but things are a little different when you have no energy and can’t seem to lose weight no matter what…

I wished I would’ve known about this when I first started so lean into this because I’m going to share with you how to use intermittent fasting the right way…

Here’s the biggest problem you are facing when incorporating fasting into your diet…

Fasting forces your body into ketosis which means that your fat cells will need to produce energy… in order for that to happen they need to be free of toxins… when your fat cells are full of toxins, fasting works primarily to detox rather than produce energy…

Detoxing drains your energy… if you are already feeling tired all the time, then fasting can drain your energy levels even more…

This doesn’t make fasting bad per se… it just means that you need to address some foundational issues first before you take on fasting…

What is making your body toxic?

Fasting is a tool to detox… what’s the point of fixing something if you don’t stop doing what broke it to begin with?

There’s no point in detoxing if you continue to make your body toxic…

If you want to get more energy and lose weight, then the first step is to become aware of everything you consume… food and drink… everything you put into your body is either making you toxic or helping you detox…

Food that makes you toxic drains your energy…

Do you have sugar cravings or hunger pains?

Fasting can seem daunting at first…

I used to wake up hangry… I needed to eat something as soon as I woke up…

Any time I’d eat, I would start getting sugar cravings…

These are all signs that you are not properly nourished… it’s quite common for people to experience this…

If you don’t nourish your body, you will end up like me… tired all the time, couldn’t lose weight even if I fasted all day, and worse my fair falling off…

I remember eating breakfast and thinking about lunch before I was done eating breakfast…

If you feel hungry all the time, then fasting is going to be too rough on your body…

That’s why you must nourish your body first and address any nutrient deficiencies before you take on fasting…

When you are well nourished, fasting becomes effortless and even enjoyable…

I eat one or two meals a day mostly because it saves me time spent cooking and cleaning up the kitchen, and mostly because I don’t feel hungry… also because my meals are so nutrient rich that I don’t need to eat much food…

This was one of the biggest lessons I learned from eating right… you need a lot less food than you think which is why fasting is such a great tool, but only if you address your energy levels first…

Nourish your body

Fasting helps you detox but can backfire if you are dehydrated

If you start fasting, your body will begin to pull toxins out of your fat cells… this is a good thing unless your body is dehydrated and doesn’t have enough water to clean itself out…

When you are dehydrated, fasting just moves toxins from one part of the body to another which is why many people begin to feel nausea, headaches, etc.

Dehydration is probably the first reason why your body is toxic to begin with… which is why you shouldn’t take on fasting unless you are properly hydrated…

Proper hydration is one of the keys to energy production… when you give your body plenty of water and minerals, it will have the raw materials it needs to produce energy…

If you are properly hydrated and you eat food that nourishes you, then you won’t be hungry or tired so fasting becomes almost effortless…

This is why intermittent fasting and hypothyroidism don’t seem to get along… it’s not because fasting is bad, it’s because people with hypothyroidism are usually dehydrated, malnourished or both…

Can intermittent fasting help with digestive issues?

Yes!!

Fasting is one of the best tools to help improve digestion…

I used to get gas, bloating and constipation…

I hope you are following, because I was dehydrated myself… hydration is what helps your body digest food… if you don’t digest food properly, then it begins to ferment in your gut, which is why you get gas and feel bloated…

If you start to eat too much food without properly digesting food from your previous meal(s), then your gut will begin to clog up and that’s when constipation shows up…

Fasting is one way to allow your body enough time to fully digest food and allows it to use up the nutrients better…

Fasting also helps with hormone production and balance…

When done right you will see many benefits from fasting…

When done wrong, fasting will drain your energy and make you feel lethargic…

Fasting won’t help you lose weight if you don’t address your energy and proper nourishment first… and stop eating food that makes your body toxic…

Once you address those issues, fasting becomes the best tool you can use to get more energy and lose weight…

How to Get Natural Energy without Restrictive Diets or Supplements

When I say I used to feel exhausted, I’m talking about bone-deep fatigue…

It wasn’t me being distant, dramatic or lazy…

It wasn’t me being just tired or run down…

It was the kind of exhaustion that lives deep in your bones…

It’s hard to explain what a flare was like without sounding dramatic…

I’d wake up feeling like I’d been hit by a Mack truck, even if all I did the day before was exist.

When this happened, my body felt sore and beaten up, like it had been through something physical and brutal…

My muscles and joints ached constantly and deep like everything was inflamed and heavy…

Some days I was just surviving quietly… it took more strength than anyone realized….

The fatigue was crippling…

Not “I could use a nap” tired, but the kind where standing up required me to grab onto a wall…

I felt weak, dizzy, and slowed down, as if I was walking through mud…

Things that were normally manageable suddenly felt overwhelming… Simple tasks required planning…

I would sit in my kitchen without moving… just enough energy to feel unmotivated…

I would feel low and sad for no reason like a flattening of everything.

The flares would happen even when I did everything right…

I’d cut out gluten, dairy, sugar…

I’d take a whole stack of supplements (selenium, iodine, iron, B vitamins, etc…)

… yet my entire system felt like it was under siege… like my body was pulling the fire alarm because of steam from the kettle, and refused to shut it off.

Everything suddenly got louder, harder, and heavier at once.

I was doing everything I could just to get through the day, but nothing worked until I figured out the cells of my body were not getting the nutrients they needed…

It didn’t matter what diet I tried, what supplements I took, or what detox I did…

Something was blocking the nutrients from getting into the cells of my body and that’s when I discovered cellular-level nutrition…

I put together a program Energy Jumpstart, where I share my 3-Step Framework to rebuild your energy.
