The tiredness was the worst…

I used to be tired all the time… had brain fog…

… would have a hard time falling asleep…

Lucky if I got 4 hours of sleep…

Would wake up and walk like a zombie…

Some days were worse than others…

Until I figured out nutrient deficiencies…

When I understood that I had nutrient deficiencies because of my autoimmune conditions… I started to pay attention to gut health…

80% of your immune system is your gut health…

Your gut health is your gut flora… your gut microbiome… it’s the beneficial bacteria (probiotics) that live in your gut…

Your gut microbiome is what digests food for you… they make nutrients out of food and also help you absorb those nutrients…

When you have autoimmune conditions, you are either lacking probiotics, have bad bacteria (yeast overgrowth, parasites, virus, etc.), or you have a toxic environment in your gut… or all three – which is most likely…

This means that food digestion is poor, and nutrient absorption is poor, which ultimately leads to nutrient deficiencies…

Before we get into the nutrients you might be missing, it’s important to understand that your ability to uptake nutrients depends on the health of your gut flora…

Simply taking a supplement without strengthening your immune system isn’t going to help you address these nutrient deficiencies…

If you are interested in learning how to get more energy, sleep better and lose weight, start here

How to strengthen your immune system

A weak immune system (autoimmune conditions) starts out with poor digestion…

This could be from poor eating habits and poor lifestyle choices…

One of the first mistakes people make that weakens their immune system is dehydration…

Water is important for digestion for many reasons…

#1 The body needs water to produce stomach acid… the less water you drink, the less stomach acid your body makes… the more water you drink, the more stomach acid your body makes…

#2 Water is used to push food through the intestines… the more dehydrated you are the more constipated you become… constipation is one way to create a toxic environment in your gut…

#3 Water is needed to get tryptophan to the brain… tryptophan is how the brain gets hormones like the feel good hormone serotonin, or the sleeping hormone melatonin among others…

In other words, water is important for digestion and sleep…

Sleep is important for your body’s recovery…

Sleep is when your immune system cleans house and strengthens itself…

In addition to water, you need minerals and vitamin D to strengthen your immune system…

Vitamin D levels are directly correlated to the strength of your immune system. The higher your vitamin D levels, the stronger your immune system. The lower your vitamin D levels, the lower your immune system…

So the formula I use to strengthen my immune system is to drink more water, add minerals and boost my vitamin D…

This is the foundation of the diet we teach inside our [Energy Bootcamp] program…

Here’s the big lesson…

A weak immune system will not allow you to digest food or uptake nutrients…

In other words… if you don’t hydrate, mineralize and boost your vitamin D levels, then no amount of supplementation will help you with your nutrient deficiencies…

Everything I will share below will only work if you address your immune system first!

I spent (wasted) a lot of money on supplements that my body wouldn’t uptake because of poor gut health…

Had I addressed this issue first, I would’ve made progress much faster…

Why do you have nutrient deficiencies?

The quality of nutrients is determined by the quality of food…

Poor food quality will give you poor nutrients (if any)… organic food will give you more nutrients provided you can digest food properly (reminder to strengthen your immune system first)…

Conventional farming practices are to grow food in poor quality soil devoid of minerals and nutrients… these foods are usually grown using only 3 minerals NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium)…

What’s more is that these farming practices are designed to ship products far distances, which means fruits and vegetables are picked before they are fully ripe…

The more ripe a fruit or veggie is before it’s picked the more nutrients it will have…

The less ripe they are, the less nutrients they will have…

Much of our food today is processed… You may see food labels that say that the food you are buying is fortified with nutrients like B vitamins, iron, folic acid, etc.

What they don’t tell you is that these are synthetic and in my opinion synthetic doesn’t belong in the body…

This is why the best food source is organic food, grown local, picked at the right time… visit your local farmer’s market to experience “real food”

Now that we’ve addressed getting the right foods, and making sure you are able to digest and uptake nutrients…

8 Most Common Nutrient Deficiencies That Affect Thyroid Function

The 8 most common nutrient deficiencies are

  • Iron
  • Selenium
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin B12
  • CoEnzyme Q10
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Magnesium

Iron is an important mineral that allows your blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of your body…

One way to tell if you have low iron, and thus low oxygen is if you feel fatigued and lightheadedness (dizziness)… boosting your iron levels is one way to get more oxygen delivered to the cells of your body…

Selenium is an important antioxidant needed to fight off oxidative stress and inflammation… poor lifestyle choices like alcohol and stress increase the amount of oxidative stress which damages cells… this uses up your stores of selenium…

When you eat foods with iodide, the thyroid uses hydrogen peroxide to convert iodide into iodine… hydrogen peroxide creates oxidative stress, inflammation and antibodies… selenium is the antioxidant that helps neutralize oxidative stress created by hydrogen peroxide…

If you are selenium deficient, you’ll see elevated thyroid peroxidase antibodies in your lab numbers…

Selenium is also used to convert the thyroid hormone T4 into T3…

Zinc is a magical mineral… it drives digestion and growth… another way of saying this is that zinc strengthens your immune system and speeds up wound healing…

Vitamin B12 is used for nerve cells and works hand in hand with iron to deliver oxygen to the cells of your body…

Similar to an iron deficiency, a vitamin B12 deficiency is felt by lack of oxygen which leads to fatigue and dizziness…

CoEnzyme Q10 is what helps your mitochondria produce energy… this is one of the main antioxidants the body uses to keep your skin looking young…

Since CoEnzyme Q10 is a fat soluble, vitamin-like compound, it works best when used along with a ketogenic diet…

Top Food Sources To Address Hashimoto’s Nutrient Deficiencies…

My absolute top food that addresses practically all of these nutrient deficiencies is grass fed beef organs…

I get mine from Ancestral Supplements (Use code “Hip Hip” for 10% off your order)

Beef organs are by far the best source of nutrients like heme iron, vitamin A, vitamin B12…

There’s a caveat to beef organs… if you have poor digestion you may experience a detoxification (healing crisis) as the body is able to release toxins from the body…

Beef organs is something that I introduce into my diet after a few weeks of using my energy jumpstart kit…

My second favorite source of these nutrients is blue green algae. Since this is a plant based source, it’s a great way to help detoxify the body which reduces the detoxification crisis you’d experience from beef organs…
