At first, I thought I was just aging… started feeling tired all the time.
It got to the point where I would be home after work and I’d be too exhausted to move.
You would think that I’d fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow… but that’s what was weird about this type of fatigue. I’d be tired, but wired. I struggled to fall asleep and I would toss and turn all night.
I’d wake up and walk like a zombie.
The brain fog was the worst part… and even then, it wasn’t enough to get me to look into why I was feeling so miserable.
That part came later when my hair started falling off. I was lathering up my hair in the shower as usual and suddenly I felt this texture on my hands. I opened my eyes and there was hair all over my hands, the shower curtain, the bathtub…
That’s when I started to freak out and started looking into why I was always tired…
Mom sent me information on reishi mushroom and I started looking into what it was and how it would help. I was very skeptical about everything at this point so I didn’t take it…
… but I did read something fascinating about it that led me to what has become the solution to my fatigue… and that was the mineral content…
Why you need minerals to get more energy
As a homebrewer, I knew that I needed minerals in my brewing water in order to digest starch in grains and turn it into sugar… but I didn’t really know why I needed the minerals or what they did…
So I looked into it and it turns out that minerals are conductive… think about a double AA battery. It stores energy right? but in order to use the energy inside the battery, you need a conductive mineral like copper… a copper wire.
That’s how minerals work in your body… whatever energy your cells store can only be used if you have conductive minerals…
This ah-ha moment started my journey in understanding how to get more energy.
Hypothyroidism Energy Booster
Once I got that understanding, I started to look into ways to get minerals into my body and the easiest I found was the same way I would do it when brewing beer…
I started to add minerals to my drinking water, much like I would make different water profiles to brew different beer styles…
Minerals come from salt… there are different types of salt, but not all salts have minerals. Iodized salt (regular table salt) does not have minerals to make your body conductive. That’s pretty wild to know when you think about how common iodized salt is. I’ll leave that rabbit hole for a different day.
Instead, you want to look for salt that has not been altered and naturally contains trace minerals.
I started making SOLE salt using large pink Himalayan crystals.
These crystals contain many minerals that your body needs to be conductive and be able to use the energy it stores in the cells of your body.
Another salt I use is salt from the Great Salt Lake in Utah. This salt is very high in magnesium and you’ll find it sold as ionic magnesium.
These two mineral sources not only help you be conductive… I also understood why I needed them when brewing beer. That’s because they kickstart the digestive process. It made complete sense. Without minerals I couldn’t digest starch into sugar when brewing beer.
So it was no surprise that when I started to add this to my water, my digestion started to improve.

I knew I was onto something when I started to see the parallels between the brewing process and my gut health so I started to document everything and sharing it with others to see if they too would feel better…
