When people think of low thyroid, they think of their thyroid gland not producing thyroid hormones.
… and that’s not always the case.
There is a big difference between low hormone production and low thyroid function. I didn’t realize this at first… but the reason why I started researching this topic is because it did not sit well with me when I was told I was going to have this for life and that there was nothing I could do about it…
… oh, and that I was going to have to take hormones for the rest of my life.
Hold on doc… why is my body not producing hormones?
They couldn’t tell me…
How your body produces thyroid hormone
The thyroid produces a hormone called T4 where the “T” stands for the amino acid Tyrosine and “4” refers to the number of iodine bonds…
When you break this down, the first thing you have to look at is tyrosine. It’s an amino acid. Amino acids come from proteins. If you have trouble digesting protein, then you will start to become deficient in various amino acids…
Other amino acids like tryptophan, are used to produce other hormones like melatonin, the sleeping hormone.
Amino acids are the building blocks of tissue and other things like your hair, skin, and nails…
Often times people think that they are gaining weight, losing their hair or feel fatigued all the time because of their thyroid… but when you start to dig down into it, you realize that the problem starts with digestion…
I increased hormone production by improving digestion… and here’s how I did that…
Probiotics are the key to producing thyroid hormone
One of the reasons how I knew that I had digestive issues was because I’d get gas, bloating and constipation frequently…
At the time, I was a beer brewer teaching others how to brew beer and I didn’t care about health, nor did I care to learn about eating healthy… I thought I was eating healthy, though looking back, it’s clear that I wasn’t…
I didn’t really understand what it meant to eat healthy because I didn’t know how to measure “healthy”…
That changed when I started reading up on why I was getting so gassy… and what I was finding out was that it was because of yeast candida overgrowth… that instantly grabbed my attention because I had been studying brewer’s yeast… and I had seen the term yeast candida before in a beer brewing book (New Brewing Lager by Gregory J Noonan). In that book, yeast candida was mentioned as a wild yeast that could spoil a good batch of beer.
… and that’s when it clicked!
… because when brewing beer, I knew that yeast produce gas (CO2) during fermentation… and it made complete sense that the reason why I was gassy was because of wild yeast. They called it abnormal fermentation happening in the gut.
What this meant was that wild yeast was eating the food I was eating… wild yeast are considered bad because they take the nutrients from food and they create toxic waste from eating food…
Brewer’s yeast on the other hand is a probiotic. Probiotics are considered good because they turn food into key nutrients like vitamins, hormones… and they turn food energy into energy that the body can use…
If probiotics aren’t the ones digesting your food, then you can start to see how you will become deficient in nutrients like amino acids, vitamins, and you will have low hormone production…
What to do for underactive thyroid?
I’m a beer brewer, not a doctor… so I can only share with you what I did and let you do what you will with the information…
… but in my case, I went all in on growing probiotics.
Once I made the connection between probiotics digesting food and hormone production, I put blinders on and I started testing all kinds of theories I had…
I looked at the brewing process and everything I knew about fermentation because I knew that was a blueprint for how to grow probiotics.
The first thing I would do when brewing beer was to add water with minerals to grains like barley. I leaned into this part of the brewing process and realized that without minerals I couldn’t digest proteins into amino acids or starch into sugar.
This “ah-ha” moment made me realize that I was deficient in many minerals and it explained why I had a hard time digesting protein… I was developing food allergies and sensitivities to gluten (a very hard to digest protein.)
It all started coming together for me.
I naturally started to wonder how to get minerals into my body and got excited because I had been making different water profiles to mimic water from different regions of the world so that I could brew different beer styles like Stouts from Ireland, or Pilsners from Czech Republic…
If I added minerals to my brewing water, why am I not adding minerals to my drinking water?
That question is what started my journey as I learned how to get my body to produce hormones… I had to get my digestion right before I could do anything else…
So, I started adding minerals to my drinking water using SOLE salt and ionic magnesium. These are both salts that contain pretty much every mineral you need…
… and if you are deficient in minerals and can feel your digestion suffering from this deficiency, then that’s going to be one of the first things you notice when you incorporate minerals into your hydration routine.
I got rid of constipation and I was no longer getting gassy…
This is now the first thing I share with people who follow me, because if you don’t have minerals, then fixing other things like hormone production becomes almost impossible… If you can’t digest food properly, if you get gas, bloating or constipation, then that’s the first thing you have to take care of before attempting anything else…
I’m always happy to hear from people who start and they too see improvements in digestion which naturally boosts your energy levels because you are helping probiotics do their job.

The next thing that stood out when I learned about how important it is to have probiotics digest food for you is that when bad bacteria, wild yeast or parasites get to food before probiotics do, your body becomes highly toxic…
When your body becomes highly toxic, you begin to accumulate toxicity and the way your body protects itself from toxic waste is, if it can’t flush it out, it stores toxic waste into fat cells…
This was a huge eye opener because for the longest time I couldn’t lose weight no matter what.
When all this started happening to me, I gained 30 pounds in a month right before the holidays… by the time holidays were over, I was 46 pounds heavier than I was just a couple of months before!
A lot of this toxic waste is what then creates all sorts of inflammation and triggers anti-bodies…
I can’t wait for you to start going through this and follow the journey as you see fit…
I can’t make any promises… I’m not here to be your doctor or tell you what to do… I’m simply here to share my journey and everything that I’ve learned.
I am on a mission to help more people learn how to produce hormones so they don’t have to rely on hormone replacement therapy. It does require drastic lifestyle changes, but the best part is that no one will be able to tell you that you can’t do anything about it.

If you follow the steps we share… and take each step seriously, then you too could one day be sharing your success story.
This isn’t a pill or diet or recipe… this is about developing the skill of growing probiotics. It is a skill and it’s simple to learn… but it’s a skill nonetheless. Like learning how to play an instrument. You’re not going to sit down at the piano on day one and compose music…
So don’t expect to start adding minerals and somehow magically fixing your body… it doesn’t work like that.
I set the expectation because I want you to stick with this long enough to see results. That way, when you read or watch success stories on this site, you can see that it is possible to get results, but the people who got results, made changes and they stuck with this for at least 60-90 days…
That’s not even that long, but so many people want to pop a pill and be fixed overnight and that’s not how this happens… it’s a slow process, but a sure process…
