At first I thought I was just aging… I started feeling low energy, gaining weight no matter what and my hair started to fall off…
Felt like an 84 year old living in a 28 year old body…
I was told I was going to have to take hormones for the rest of my life…
This is when I started looking into how does the body produce hormones…
Interestingly enough, I found that hormone production and energy production go hand in hand…
I saw a different path than what they were offering me…
What do they offer?
They will offer you to either medicate, radiate or cut…
You can choose to believe that those are your only options… that there’s nothing you can do about it…
… but I refused to accept that as my faith…
My goal was to get my life back…
I wanted to get more energy and lose weight…
… and I did…
When people ask me about the pros and cons of thyroid removal, my thoughts are the following…
If you follow a good diet, then your energy levels, your weight and thyroid health will be good… removing your thyroid doesn’t fix a bad diet…
You cannot outsupplement a bad diet…
Here’s what I mean by this…
Even if you remove your thyroid, you will have to make changes to your diet if you want to experience good energy levels and lose weight…
The biggest problem I see… and also very sad to see it happen, is that people will start to grow nodules… that starts to raise concerns, but when they go to doctors, they are told it’s benign…
Don’t worry… it’s nothing bad
Yet…
It’s sad that people will go about their life because they are told not to worry and so they don’t change anything about their lifestyle…
They continue to eat bad foods… unbeknownst to them of course…
People don’t eat bad food intentionally…
Rather they don’t eat good food intentionally…
They don’t know the difference between real food and fake food…
How could we know that there’s even such a distinction to be made… you just go to the grocery store and buy what’s on sale…
Little do people know that even food that’s labeled “organic” isn’t necessarily good…
So what does make food good?
See, the real question people need to ask isn’t how long can you live without a thyroid…
How long can you live without real food?
The quality of your life depends on the quality of questions you ask…
Real food gives you energy…
Fake food drains your energy… it makes you want to take a nap 20 minutes after you eat it…
Why?
The food you eat determines the type of gut flora that grows in your gut…
There is good yeast & bacteria (probiotics) and there is bad yeast & bacteria (yeast candida, mold, parasites, etc.)…
How do you know if you have bad bacteria living in your gut?
You get gas, bloating and constipation…
Your energy levels are low…
Your sleep sucks…
You get depression & anxiety…
Why?
Because hormone production starts in your gut…
Serotonin & dopamine, the feel good happy hormones are produced in your gut…
Melatonin, the sleeping hormone is also produced in your gut…
Thyroid hormone… the thyroid produces the inactive form T4, but your liver converts it into T3… what converts it? probiotics…
Probiotics are the little workers that make your body function…
Probiotics are what built your body from birth to a full grown human body…
Probiotics are what make things grow…
Pro-biotics means “for life”
Anti-biotics means “against life”
Real food helps probiotics thrive…
Fake food helps bad bacteria thrive…
This is why people are so frustrated that nothing they do to “boost their thyroid” works… and that’s because they are coming at this from the frame of mind thinking that if they fix their thyroid their body will function…
My epiphany was to do the opposite…
I focused on fixing how my body functions and that will boost my thyroid…
The body functions based on the health of your gut flora… the health of the probiotics that dwell within you…
Growing healthy probiotics in your gut is the most effective way to get more energy and lose weight…
When you learn how to grow probiotics, you will learn how to tell the difference between real food and fake food…
How to get more energy
Probiotics need water and minerals to thrive…
Most people with low thyroid are dehydrated… they don’t drink enough water and if they do drink water, it’s often not good water (plastic bottle water, tap water ran through a filter, etc.)
Water needs to be clean and mineralized…
If you don’ live near a source of clean spring water, then you have to make your own water from scratch… reverse osmosis is a good start… but that has no minerals, so you need to seek out minerals like ionic magnesium and SOLE salt…
This is where we begin to stand apart at Hypothyroidism Success Story…
We understand that we must take responsibility for taking care of our own body…
When I first started sharing that I use large pink Himalayan salt crystals, I didn’t realize that there were many people out there who thought that salt is bad for them…
It made me think about how this happens…
This is how I started to understand the difference between real food and fake food…
Real salt is salt that has minerals…
Your body needs minerals to regulate blood pressure…
In 1924, iodized salt was introduced to world with a narrative saying that it would prevent iodine deficiency…
They sold people a product that was stripped from minerals with the offer to “prevent iodine deficiency”… that it was important because iodine deficiency affects thyroid function…
That’s what they say…
Yet… anyone who’s struggled with thyroid fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, brain fog, and the laundry list of things that comes with that knows that iodine alone won’t fix their issues…
Worst, when you consume salt with no minerals your body can’t regulate its blood pressure… that’s when they are told that they need to lay off salt because salt is bad for them…
Woe to them who say that what’s wrong is right, what’s right is wrong; that black is white, and white is black; bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.
Isaiah 5:20
The interesting thing about the situation is that within context the phrase “salt is bad for you” is right… if the salt you are consuming is salt with no minerals, such as iodized salt also known as table salt, then the phrase is right…
It’s mind boggling to see that salt everywhere… go to restaurants, what do they have? table salt…
The food you buy at the grocery store, especially that comes in a box, can, or microwave ready… what kind of salt do you think they use to season it? table salt…
When I say that salt is good for you, I’m not referring to table salt, or iodized salt…
I’m referring to real salt which is mineralized salt… sea salt and pink Himalayan salt are the main ones I use… but there’s more nuances…
The source matters… you need to pay attention to the cleanliness of the salt… does it have microplastic, stone or metal debris from grinding?
Ground of fine pink Himalayan salt which you find at grocery stores is not good salt…
I seek out large pink Himalayan crystal salts which you can’t find at grocery stores…
This is one of the many things I help people understand to improve their diet…
Adding minerals to water alone is a huge improvement that could be the difference between keeping your thyroid and having to remove it…
How to get better sleep
Hydration is just the beginning… salt isn’t the only misconception people have about food…
Most people I talk to that have low energy, low hormone production and poor sleep have one thing in common…
They believe fat is bad for them… they believe that fat makes them fat…
They perceive a healthy diet to be lean meats and veggies…
I was no different…
Until I gained 40 lbs in a month and realized that what I thought was healthy eating wasn’t…
Fat is a needed nutrient that allows your body to produce hormones… it is needed for your body to uptake and use vitamin D… vitamin D & cholesterol is what your body uses to produce hormones…
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin… that means that you need healthy fat in your diet to be able to use it…
Why do so many people think that lean meats like chicken and turkey are healthier than red meat & fish?
Probably because they’ve been told that saturated fat is bad… because they’ve been told that vegetable oil is good…
What I’ve found is that the opposite is true… removing vegetable oils from my diet was one of the biggest improvements I made that allowed me to produce more hormones…
This is why it’s not about whether you can live without a thyroid or without thyroid hormones… it’s about understanding what real food is and what fake food is…
Real food is real because it will help you produce energy and hormones… because it will help you grow probiotics in your gut… probiotics are what produce energy and hormones for you…
You can live without a thyroid, but you can’t live healthy and thrive without real food…
Better to keep your thyroid if you want to live healthy… better to change your food now before you have to cut body parts…
I’m grateful that I went through this struggle because it taught the biggest lesson I needed to learn… your body is a temple…
