Food is supposed to give you energy, but I used to feel lethargic after eating. I would get gas, bloating and constipation.

I’d come home from work and be too exhausted to move.
My motto when it came to food, used to be “everything in moderation.” That started to change when I was willing to make changes to get more energy and help my body produce hormones.
When I first started, I was looking to lose weight, so I started my mornings with green juice… I don’t recommend that. I did see some benefits with green juice, but after 10 years of looking into what works, I found something better that I started sharing with our students.
Why you must watch your blood sugar
When blood sugar is high, your body goes into fat storage mode. It slows down hormone production and it’s the reason why you start to feel tired all the time.
Sugar is a very attractive food for yeast like yeast candida. As a beer brewer, I learned that yeast eat sugar and in order to metabolize sugar, they suck up oxygen. This explains why you yawn and feel fatigued when your blood sugar rises.
If you want to feel more energy and help your body produce thyroid hormone, then you must avoid foods that spike your blood sugar.
In other words, focus mainly on protein and healthy fats for breakfast…
Before I share what I believe is the best breakfast for underactive thyroid, I need to share one thing about protein digestion.
Inflammation, cortisol and cholesterol are the bad players
When I started my journey, I had a hard time digesting protein. Inflammation happens when your body can’t break down protein.
The reason why I share this is because I couldn’t digest protein and fats when I started. So what I eat for breakfast now, is not was I was eating when I first started because I had a hard time digesting protein.
This is huge, and something I wish I knew before I started. People who don’t have hypothyroidism don’t know what it’s like so they think they can come up with a nutrition plan, but don’t understand that our digestion is not the same when you have an underactive thyroid.
That being said, what got me through in the beginning was bone broth.
Bone broth was hands down the best breakfast I had that helped me when I was dealing with inflammation and a laundry list of things…
Not all bone broths are created equal. Most bone broths sold at the store are liquid and high in sodium. You’ll need to seek out real bone broth or make your own using soup bones. The bone marrow turns into gelatin so bone broth should be thick like Jell-O.
The reason why bone broth is so good is because it is easy to digest. It contains easy to digest proteins that your body uptakes and makes it feel nourished (read that as it takes away your sugar or salt cravings.)
Another reason why I love bone broth so much is because you can use it as a way to incorporate healthy fats into your diet. Depending on your ability to digest fat, you can add grass fed beef tallow or grass fed butter to your bone broth to make it more filling.
Once you improve your digestion, then you can start to incorporate other proteins and fats into your breakfast meals and there’s really no restrictions as long as you are sourcing out “real food.”
To improve your digestion, start by looking at minerals which is the first step I share with everyone looking to become a hypothyroidism success story.
