If you are always in pain feeling like you are about to faint, then this is for you…
There are many misconceptions around thyroid function and even more misconceptions around what are natural ways to improve thyroid function…
My hope is to give you clarity and a path you can start today that will actually get you results…
The first thing we need to clear up is knowing what exactly is broken?
Most people are under the assumption that their thyroid is broken… but the thyroid doesn’t work in isolation… so while you may have low thyroid function, the main problem may actually be downstream or upstream… and that’s what we’re going to talk about…
How to produce thyroid hormones naturally
Let’s talk about an ideal world where everything works as intended… to produce thyroid hormones, your body needs to first get the nutrients it needs to produce hormones…
The main nutrients your body needs are amino acids, saturated fats and cholesterol…
The problem most people have is poor digestion… they struggle to digest fats or proteins, or both and they are therefore told to cut out things like gluten or dairy… cutting out foods helps with inflammation if you have poor digestion, but it doesn’t fix digestion….
… and if you don’t fix digestion, you will soon deplete your body of the nutrients it needs to produce thyroid hormone… people who cut out gluten and dairy, will struggle to produce thyroid hormone because their body isn’t getting the nutrients it needs more so than low thyroid function…
So the first step to improving thyroid function is to make sure that you are actually eating the right foods and that your body can digest them… (more on digestion below)
How to Lower TSH Levels Naturally
Assuming your diet gives your body the nutrients it needs… and assuming your thyroid is indeed producing hormones (which is actually very common even with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s)… then the next step is to figure out why your TSH levels are going haywire…
Here’s how it works… the brain will send a signal to the thyroid (via TSH) letting it know that it needs more thyroid hormone T3…
What happens in many cases is that the thyroid produces primarily thyroid hormone T4… the liver then takes T4 and breaks it down into the active form T3… if the liver fails to make this conversion, then the brain thinks the thyroid didn’t make enough hormone and starts to increase the signal it sends the thyroid, which is how TSH levels begin to rise…
Notice that this is more of a liver problem than a thyroid problem… which means that in order to improve TSH levels, you’ll want to improve liver function…
Natural Remedies for Hypothyroidism
Your body can very well be functioning just fine up to the point where it converts thyroid hormone T4 into T3… but there’s still another hurdle… There is a difference between Free T3 and reverse T3…
Free T3 is the true active form of thyroid hormone that your body can use… when your body is toxic, the thyroid hormone T3 can become bound to carrier proteins and that makes them inactive… this is a toxicity problem, more so than a thyroid function problem…
Low hormone production, poor T4 to T3 conversion and low “free T3” all have one thing in common: the root cause can be traced back to poor digestion…
If you can’t digest protein, then your body can’t get amino acids like Tyrosine, which is what the “T” stands for in T4… Tyrosine is the building block of thyroid hormone… and when your liver can’t digest T4, then you won’t get enough T3…
When your body can’t digest food properly, it’s usually due to bad bacteria or parasites in your gut… and they create a lot of toxins as a byproduct of digestion, which is how people end up with more reverse T3 and less free T3…
That’s why the most natural way to improve thyroid function is to focus on improving your digestion…
If you have gas, bloating or find yourself constipated frequently, you want to start by improving your hydration… you may fall under one of two common categories:
#1 You don’t like to drink water
#2 You drink filtered water (or water from a plastic bottle)
Proper hydration requires that you ensure two things are present in your water: it has to be clean, and you need minerals…
Most water filters are not able to get all the contaminants out of water, which prevents your body from absorbing it… if your body does absorb water with toxins, and you have low free T3, then you know one source of toxins keeping you from getting more free T3…
Minerals have the highest impact in your hydration… because your body needs minerals for food digestion and other functions like breaking down thyroid hormone T4 into T3…
That’s why the very first step we share with everyone is hydration:
1 Qt of clean water (reverse osmosis)
4mL SOLE salt minerals
2mL ionic magnesium w/trace minerals
This may sound almost too simple, but without this, nothing else works… minerals could be the main reason why your hair is thinning… we’ve had hair loss success stories just by adding minerals… this is not always the case… sometimes hair thinning is a combination of low vitamin D and lacking other nutrients… but improving vitamin D levels and getting other nutrients is nearly impossible if you are dehydrated…
That’s why hydration is the key to get your energy back and feel like yourself again… it’s the first step to improve thyroid function naturally…
How to Get Natural Energy without Restrictive Diets or Supplements
When I say I used to feel exhausted, I’m talking about bone-deep fatigue…
It wasn’t me being distant, dramatic or lazy…
It wasn’t me being just tired or run down…
It was the kind of exhaustion that lives deep in your bones…
It’s hard to explain what a flare was like without sounding dramatic…
I’d wake up feeling like I’d been hit by a Mack truck, even if all I did the day before was exist.
When this happened, my body felt sore and beaten up, like it had been through something physical and brutal…
My muscles and joints ached constantly and deep like everything was inflamed and heavy…
Some days I was just surviving quietly… it took more strength than anyone realized….
The fatigue was crippling…
Not “I could use a nap” tired, but the kind where standing up required me to grab onto a wall…
I felt weak, dizzy, and slowed down, as if I was walking through mud…
Things that were normally manageable suddenly felt overwhelming… Simple tasks required planning…
I would sit in my kitchen without moving… just enough energy to feel unmotivated…
I would feel low and sad for no reason like a flattening of everything.
The flares would happen even when I did everything right…
I’d cut out gluten, dairy, sugar…
I’d take a whole stack of supplements (selenium, iodine, iron, B vitamins, etc…)
… yet my entire system felt like it was under siege… like my body was pulling the fire alarm because of steam from the kettle, and refused to shut it off.
Everything suddenly got louder, harder, and heavier at once.
I was doing everything I could just to get through the day, but nothing worked until I figured out the cells of my body were not getting the nutrients they needed…
It didn’t matter what diet I tried, what supplements I took, or what detox I did…
Something was blocking the nutrients from getting into the cells of my body and that’s when I discovered cellular-level nutrition…
I put together a program Energy Jumpstart, where I share my 3-Step Framework to rebuild your energy.
