One of my biggest pet peeves about the healthcare system is the canned responses to questions like “Is there a natural way to treat hypothyroidism?”…
… because they usually claim that you can’t treat hypothyroidism using natural methods, nothing can replace medication, and that you should always consult with a healthcare provider…
Which all sounds good at first…
… but what happens when you feel so exhausted that you feel like you’re about to pass out? And you are already doing everything the “healthcare provider” told you to do?
Because that’s exactly where I was… I felt this heaviness in my body, and my muscles would ache… I couldn’t function that way…
That’s when I started looking for natural ways to correct hypothyroidism…
How to Naturally Correct Hypothyroidism
Let me start with a quick clarification… the term “hypothyroidism” is a medical term… and that means no one is allowed to say they can treat, cure or prevent it without their approval…
For that reason, I’m going to talk to you about how I was able to get my energy back so that I no longer feel like I’m about to faint…
There’s four phases I went through to make this happen…
#1 Eating the right foods
#2 Making sure your glands are functioning properly
#3 Regulating your nervous system
#4 Detoxing your body
The general consensus from the medical community is that dietary changes improve overall well-being, but it doesn’t replace medication… to them “you are going to have to take hormones for the rest of your life…”
… and I did not want to participate in that scheme, so I started asking myself some simple questions like “what foods do I need to be eating to make sure my body produces thyroid hormone naturally?”
That’s not an unreasonable question… but what’s crazy is that one of the most common dietary advice you are told is to cut out dairy… and it turns out that dairy is actually one of the foods that has ALL the nutrients your body needs to produce hormones… so what’s going on?
If you’ve ever been pitched a thyroid supplement, you will see that the ingredients promoted are usually things like selenium, copper, zinc, biotin, etc.
Egg yolks have all of those nutrients and more!
When you combine those nutrients with cholesterol (found in egg yolks), and saturated fats (found in milk), you get the raw materials your need to produce thyroid hormone naturally…
… but what if eating dairy causes inflammation?
Inflammation has a few different causes, but the one that stands out is poor protein digestion… here’s why… the body makes its own protein… and any protein that the body doesn’t make is seen as a foreign invader… so if you eat dairy and your body can’t digest the protein, it will see it as a foreign invader…
The body will then do whatever it can to break down the protein including “setting it on fire”, which is where the word inflammation comes from… once the body determines it can’t break it down, then it builds mucus around it and that’s why you see mucus in your stool or feel your sinuses get stuffed up…
Cutting out dairy alleviates inflammation, but it doesn’t fix protein digestion…
Fixing digestion is the key to helping your body produce thyroid hormones naturally… but this is not done just by eating dairy… you need to pay attention to the source of your dairy… where does it come from??
Quality matters, and the way the animals were raised matters… it also matters that you are consuming food grown locally in your area… so many people resist this, but here’s how I say it… if you buy food from a big box store that has a pharmacy attached to it, don’t be surprised if you suddenly find yourself shopping for food and meds “conveniently”…
You need to know the name of the cow that provides you with milk… until you do so, you are simply not getting the right quality of food you need to pull this off… if you buy food from the grocery store, it will reinforce the idea that dietary changes don’t do Jack squat… and yes, no matter how “clean” you think you eat, it won’t work with food from the grocery store…

… because they don’t sell what you need… you need A2 dairy, which only comes from breeds like Guernseys, Jerseys, etc., and you need the milk to be raw in order to get the nutrients intact… pasteruizing milk denatures enzymes (proteins) and kills probiotics which are needed for hormone production
This is what I mean by eating the right foods…
How to Correct Underactive Thyroid
If you eat the right foods, then your body will get the raw materials it needs to produce thyroid hormone naturally… but now you need to ensure that your glands are working properly…
The thyroid doesn’t work in isolation… the thyroid produces primarily T4 hormones and a little T3 hormone… the body needs primarily thyroid hormone T3… the liver converts T4 into T3… so if your liver isn’t working right, then your body won’t get enough T3…
Poor liver function is often mistaken for underactive thyroid for this reason… because if you have low T3, the assumption is that your thyroid didn’t produce enough thyroid hormone… and that isn’t always the case…
There are many people we have helped that found their main issue was not their thyroid… their main issue was either a toxic liver, a toxic gallbladder, or a toxic gut… or a combination of all three… which was the main reason why their hormone production was weak even though they were eating right and exercising…
There’s two components to making sure your glands are working properly… one is physical… if you’ve had your gallbladder removed for example, that’s obviously an issue that will be harder to resolve, but you can still take some corrective action…
What is harder is when there is something not physical… like trauma… trauma can be the reason why some people’s organs shutdown… this is what many will put under the “stress” category, very common in Hashimoto’s…
When this happens, labs can’t really find anything wrong with you… so they’ll tell you it’s all in your head… this is where regulating your nervous system comes into play…
Treating Hypothyroidism Naturally
So, let’s you you’ve done everything right so far… you are eating good, you have made your glands function properly… that should be it right?
No…
There’s still more to look at… your thyroid could very well be producing thyroid hormone T4… the liver could be converting it to T3 just fine… but there is yet another hurdle to overcome…
There are two types of thyroid hormone T3… Free T3 & Reverse T3…
Your body needs Free T3…
Reverse T3 happens when you have foreign proteins like albumin or when you have a lot of toxicity in your gut & body… that’s why, you have to detox your body and get rid of toxins and excess proteins… if you have high TPO levels, that’s a sign of inflammation, which means there’s a lot of undigested protein in your body that you need to digest and get out of the body…
This is why working on digestion was the number one thing that helped me get my energy back… I no longer feel like I need to collapse…
