A Nutrient You Didn't Know You Needed to Produce Thyroid Hormone

Probiotics need nutrients to make hormones. Cholesterol is the most important nutrient for hormone production following vitamin D. 

That was the last thing I expected to learn when I was looking to improve my hormone production. It was crazy just to think of it, but looking back I can now see why people who avoid cholesterol have low hormone production.

Cholesterol is like sheet metal to a steel shop. The body uses vitamin D and cholesterol to make all sex hormones like testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, thyroid hormone, etc.

Without consuming cholesterol, your body can’t produce hormones.

If you are anything like me, I used to think cholesterol was bad!

I didn’t really know anything else about cholesterol other than, I remember as a kid watching grandma take medication for having high cholesterol and ever since I had a negative association with cholesterol.

I didn't know anything about cholesterol other than I thought it was bad to have high cholesterol and thinking it was because grandma ate too much, when she was actually avoiding cholesterol and that was the mistake she was making.  

When I learned that thyroid hormone and others are directly derived from cholesterol, I had to do a double take to make sure I’d read that right.

It seemed like everything that was good for me was stuff that health professionals say is bad for you… and things that are bad for me, “the science” says that it’s good. 

Early on my journey, I decided to go raw vegan. Once I learned about cholesterol, I realized that being vegan long term was problematic because there is no such thing as a plant-based source of cholesterol. That’s why some people become vegetarians because they realize they need animal-based foods like ghee to get cholesterol into their diet. 

When my need to consume cholesterol to produce thyroid hormone became clear, I stopped being vegan.

... but even before I went vegan, I used to eat egg whites only thinking that the cholesterol in egg yolks was bad… and suddenly it started to make sense how I ended up with low hormone production to begin with…

I was avoiding fat, salt and cholesterol because I was under the impression it would clog my arteries.

Truth is that ever since I started eating more fat (saturated fat), cholesterol (eggs, raw milk, butter, etc.,) and mineralized salt, my body started to burn fat and build muscle effortlessly.

Nothing I'm sharing is new. Grandma grew up in a homestead ranch drinking raw milk and was perfectly healthy until she started avoiding the foods she grew up with because like most of us, she was being told saturated fat, cholesterol and salt is bad for you. 

I didn't want to take hormones for the rest of my life and eating egg yolks made more sense than taking pills for life.

Doctors will fill you up with supplements before they tell you to eat three egg yolks for cholesterol. They'll give you books, which talk about supplements like iron, selenium, ashwagandha, iodine, etc. 

Some books touch on the foods you need… but remember that all this information is pointless if you don't have the probiotics to digest food. 

The real problem is weak probiotics in your gut caused by a toxic environment. If you fix that environment, you can strengthen your gut flora and then you'll be able to digest food properly.

If you have digestive issues, you can't just jump in and start guzzling raw milk. I had to cut out dairy and gluten myself, because I had a lot of inflammation. I had to work on my digestion first which is why I started with hydration and building up from there.
