If you are feeling sluggish, dealing with inflammation or looking for how to avoid the 3pm thyroid crash, then read on…
Since 2013, I’ve been experimenting with foods to eat and foods to avoid with hypothyroidism… what most people tell you to avoid is overkill… too restrictive…
They even taunt you by saying don’t eat treats “like this delicious chocolate cake” and then show you a picture of it… like, seriously?
Screw that… I’m going to show you how you can have your cake and eat it too…
I’ve been sharing this with others what foods to eat, and what foods to avoid with hypothyroidism…

… and the best part is that it doesn’t require you to give up your favorite foods…
Let me show you HOW
When I started in 2013, I experimented with all kinds of diets…
- Vegan
- Keto
- Paleo
- Carnivore
- You name it…
I tried all the common advice that people share online… things you’ve probably already heard, tried and found it doesn’t move the needle…
- Iodine-rich foods
- selenium rich foods
- gluten-free
- sugar-free
- dairy-free
- cruciferous vegetables
- etc.
As you’ll see, this doesn’t really work…
There are better ways to go about this… you can do this by following a simple method I call activating your ThyroBiome…
With this method, you will ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs to get more energy and feel better…

With this method, I eat my favorite foods and I:
- Have energy that lasts all day
- I sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed
- I don’t get brain fog
- My hair grows thick and my bathtub doesn’t look awful when I wash my hair
- I don’t feel like I’m about to faint
Not because I restrict my diet, but because I’ve learned what foods are good and what foods are not good for you…
This is not for everyone
These recommendations only work if you are willing to step out of the mainstream advice you typically get when you look for what diet works best for hypothyroidism…
You’ll get a range of answers from “there’s no such thing as a thyroid diet” to terrible advice like avoid dairy, eat lean meats, etc.
Some of the things I’m going to share may sound like the exact opposite of that advice, but I’m going to give you context and share why it works and how others have made it work…
You also need to understand that diet isn’t the only thing you may need to change… diet is only one out of four things we do to get more energy and feel better…
There are differences if you have Hashimoto’s… on one end, you have people that can’t lose weight… on the other end, you have people who can’t gain weight… these are important distinctions to know how to navigate these topics…
Activating your ThyroBiome Solves 3 Big Problems
#1 – I have low energy and feel like fainting
If you find yourself having to grab on to walls, needing a moment to get yourself together, then you need to activate your ThyroBiome… once you do, you won’t feel like walking through mud, and you’ll notice your motivation start coming back.
#2 – I struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep
If you feel like you are barely able to push through after dinner, but then struggle to fall asleep, then you need to activate your ThyroBiome, which helps you produce more of the sleeping hormone melatonin without you having to take sleeping pills that knock you out, but don’t restore you…
#3 – I have gas, bloating, or constipation
If you find yourself having to unbutton your jeans by 2 pm and go to the bathroom less than once daily (at a minimum), then you need to activate your ThyroBiome to help your body digest food and eliminate properly….
Avoiding these foods is part of what we teach to help you activate your ThyroBiome…
#1 – Avoid Conventional Pasteurized A1 Dairy – But Not A2 Dairy

There is a big difference between A1 pasteurized milk and raw A2 milk…
First off… what is A1 VS A2 Milk?
A2 Milk is milk that comes from older traditional cow breeds like:
- Guernsey
- Jersey
- Zebu
- Normande
A1 Milk is milk that comes from other breeds like the popular Holstein breed. This breed was a selective breed, which is one way of saying “genetically different” than the original breeds listed above… which makes you ask the question:
Why is A1 milk so popular?
The Holsteins breed cows are known for producing the highest volume of milk… but at a cost… it has less fat and a different type of protein…
A2 Beta-Casein is a protein that has an amino acid called proline. This is a natural form of protein that is easy to digest and compatible for human consumption.
A1 Beta-Casein is a protein that has replaced proline with an amino acid called histidine. This is a highly inflammatory protein and it’s the main reason why many people are told to avoid dairy.
That’s why this statement is both true and false depending on the context…
Avoid A1 Dairy? True
Avoid A2 Dairy? False
Milk has essential nutrients including vitamin D, saturated fat and cholesterol which are key ingredients for hormone production… and it’s a key food we use to help produce thyroid hormones naturally.

#2 Avoid Gluten – But Not All Gluten

The reason I led with dairy is because I want you to notice a pattern… good dairy is good because it has good genes…
Gluten is the same…
When “health professionals” tell you to avoid gluten, they are referring to breads and pasta made with grains that have hard to digest gluten… these foods are the foods you find at most popular grocery stores including Sprouts, Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, and others…
Breads and pasta made with modern day grains are inflammatory foods because these grains have also gone through selective breeding…. (seeing the pattern?)
Older traditional grains like Einkorn have gluten, but it’s easy to digest…
In his book “Wheat Belly”, William Davis MD, says that Einkorn has only 14 chromosomes compared to modern day wheat which has upwards of 42 chromosomes!!
Not only is the gluten hard to digest, but you’ll also find it spikes your blood sugar according to William Davis MD…
Heirloom grain varieties like Einkorn have key nutrients including B vitamins and folate which is key for methylation and immune regulation (especially good for autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto’s)
#3 Avoid Iodine-Rich Foods and Supplements, But Not Their Natural Versions

In the 1920’s a propaganda campaign started to bring to market a new product: Iodized table salt…
This is the most common type of salt out on the market today because it is cheaper to mass produce.
Iodized salt is refined by:
- Heated and chemically treated to remove impurities and moisture
- Bleached to make it white
- May contain anti-caking agents to prevent clumping
This process removes all trace minerals, leaving nearly pure sodium chloride (NaCl)…
Does eating something that has been chemically treated, bleached or mixed in with anti-caking agents sound natural?
You know when you buy stuff, sometimes there is a little Silica packet that says “Do Not Eat”… that’s an anti-caking agent… so why are people eating this stuff?
… because, people were told that they had an iodine deficiency and since every natural salt has forced to label their product as “This salt does not supply iodide, a necessary nutrient”…
But natural sea salt has the trace minerals your body desperately needs to get more energy!!
Minerals are needed for your body to properly digest food… without minerals, you end up with gas, bloating and constipated…
Think about how you get energy from a AA battery… you take a wire made out of a mineral like copper and touch negative to positive, right?
Well your body works the same way… every cell of your body is a battery and it needs conductive minerals like copper, magnesium, zinc and other trace minerals which are found in salt when it’s in its natural form… these trace minerals are stripped when making the “refined” version iodized salt…
It’s the reason why you can’t make sauerkraut or other natural ferments with iodized salt… because probiotics need minerals to digest and be healthy…
Without minerals, the probiotics that live in your gut and thyroid cannot be healthy… minerals are a key component to activate your ThyroBiome…
#4 Avoid Fatty Foods, But Not All Fats

It is very common for people to avoid eating fat….
I used to be a low-fat warrior myself… if you’d ask me back in 2013 if I ate healthy, I would have said yes… because I thought that eating lean meats and veggies was the definition of eating healthy…
I now hear this from others who think they eat healthy just because they eat “organic”… or I hear people say they do NOT eat healthy because they don’t eat vegetables…
Either way, that’s not what eating heatlhy is about…
As you have seen above, the best foods to eat for hypothyroidism have a lot more to do with quality of food than anything else…
When it comes to eating fat, the same applies…
There is a terrible fat that is just as common as A1 pasteurized milk, gluten from modern day grains, and iodized salt… and that is vegetable oils…
Why is it popular?
… because it is cheap to mass produce… and it’s the reason why it’s used widely in packaged foods or if you eat out at restaurants…
These foods combined are a big reason why there are so many people who struggle with some sort of autoimmune condition…
Probiotics don’t like these foods…
Probiotics are what give you energy and produce hormones for you…
So if you avoid these foods, then you will be light years ahead of most people…
You will understand that the problem isn’t “fried foods”… it’s what oil is it fried in?
If you use tallow then you can fry food and not have to worry about causing your body inflammation…
Butter is a much needed food for the same reason as A2 milk… but it has to be made using raw milk and remain unpasteurized, something that you won’t find at your grocery store…
This may not be what you want to hear because now you are left wondering “where do I get this type of food?”
That’s an exciting place to be, because that’s how your journey begins… you are now doing something different that nobody else is talking about…
While everyone wants you to get expensive labs, and give you supplements for nutrients you would normally find in the types of food I’m sharing with you, you start to break out of that system… you start activating your ThyroBiome…
How to Get Natural Energy without Restrictive Diets or Supplements
When I say I used to feel exhausted, I’m talking about bone-deep fatigue…
It wasn’t me being distant, dramatic or lazy…
It wasn’t me being just tired or run down…
It was the kind of exhaustion that lives deep in your bones…
It’s hard to explain what a flare was like without sounding dramatic…
I’d wake up feeling like I’d been hit by a Mack truck, even if all I did the day before was exist.
When this happened, my body felt sore and beaten up, like it had been through something physical and brutal…
My muscles and joints ached constantly and deep like everything was inflamed and heavy…
Some days I was just surviving quietly… it took more strength than anyone realized….
The fatigue was crippling…
Not “I could use a nap” tired, but the kind where standing up required me to grab onto a wall…
I felt weak, dizzy, and slowed down, as if I was walking through mud…
Things that were normally manageable suddenly felt overwhelming… Simple tasks required planning…
I would sit in my kitchen without moving… just enough energy to feel unmotivated…
I would feel low and sad for no reason like a flattening of everything.
The flares would happen even when I did everything right…
I’d cut out gluten, dairy, sugar…
I’d take a whole stack of supplements (selenium, iodine, iron, B vitamins, etc…)
… yet my entire system felt like it was under siege… like my body was pulling the fire alarm because of steam from the kettle, and refused to shut it off.
Everything suddenly got louder, harder, and heavier at once.
I was doing everything I could just to get through the day, but nothing worked until I figured out the cells of my body were not getting the nutrients they needed…
It didn’t matter what diet I tried, what supplements I took, or what detox I did…
Something was blocking the nutrients from getting into the cells of my body and that’s when I discovered cellular-level nutrition…
I put together a program Energy Jumpstart, where I share my 3-Step Framework to rebuild your energy.
