Hang on now, I’m gonna say something that might ruffle some feathers…
I have such a disdain for thyroid supplements…
… Not because they never work. Not because they’re evil. But because 90% of the time, they’re just symptom management dressed up in a “natural” label.
Let me show you what I mean. Say you go to a naturopath or functional medicine practitioner. You’re dealing with inflammation, fatigue, weight gain — all the things. They run some labs, check your thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies, and sure enough… they’re high.
And now here comes the fire analogy when they tell you:
“You’ve got inflammation, it’s like a fire. Here’s a bottle of Selenium that can help put it out.
Sounds logical, right? Selenium = fire extinguisher.
Cool. But what if you’ve got a gas leak that’s been feeding that fire for years?
What if the real issue isn’t the fire — but the fuel?
Because if you don’t stop the leak, guess what? The fire keeps coming back.
That’s why I stopped relying on supplements…… Because supplements, even the “natural” ones, can lull us into thinking we’re fixing the root cause… when really, we’re just containing the flames.
Let’s talk antibodies. They told me my immune system was attacking my body.
“It’s an autoimmune condition,” they said…
… But no one explained what the immune system actually is. No one told me why it would suddenly turn on me.
That question changed everything.
Here’s what I learned:
Your immune system is made up of bacteria. They fail to mention that there’s good bacteria and bad bacteria.
The good kind releases enzymes that help you heal.
The bad kind releases enzymes that attack tissues — like your thyroid.
That’s what antibodies are reacting to. So, if your immune system is “attacking” you, what it really means is:
You’ve got bad bacteria releasing harmful enzymes. That’s the leak.
And guess what?
Selenium doesn’t fix that.
So, what did I do instead?
I stopped fighting my body. I started creating an environment where good bacteria could thrive and bad bacteria would go dormant — not eradicated, just asleep.
Because your microbiome is like a garden. You don’t kill off every bug — you balance the ecosystem.How do you do that?

✅ Mineralization
✅ pH balance
✅ Body temperature regulation
✅ Real nourishment
Simple things.
Basic things.
But powerful things.
Final thought:
You can spend thousands chasing the perfect protocol. But if your terrain is off, you’ll keep spinning your wheels. Your body isn’t broken. It’s just trying to survive in a system that’s out of balance.
So, before you reach for another bottle of pills — even the “natural” kind — ask yourself:
Am I fixing the fire? Or am I finally stopping the leak?
